It is now fall – or so I’m told. It was 103 degrees in Tucson today, which is why this is the only time of the year that I start to miss living in the Midwest. Summer just won’t get the hint that it’s overstayed it’s welcome for about a month now. So, in an effort to try and convince my brain that it’s fall, I’ve decided it’s time to start decorating the house accordingly. So, I did a little craft project today. My pinecone flowers are inspired by these from Martha Stewart. Very loosely inspired. My blog is called “Figuring it out as I go” not “I already know how to do everything perfectly”. So yes, I know that Martha’s are way cooler, but she must have had some giant pinecones to work with. She must not have picked up the mini pinecones from the dollar bins at Target. I’ve already made a mental note to grab some real ones on our next trip up to Mt. Lemmon. Until then, I do like how these turned out, and I’m proud of myself for squeezing them in today.

E-Mealz are 2 for 2!
Well today has been pretty uneventful, and since I’m not desperate enough for material yet to do a post on baby throw up (your welcome), I’ll tell you about E-Mealz #2. It was a hit! Stuffed French Toast with pears and Canadian Bacon! Mmmmmm…… How can you go wrong with that? Basically, it’s a French toast sandwich with a ricotta cheese mixture in the middle. Cook up some pears with brown sugar and serve with Canadian bacon. Now some of you might be gasping and saying, “Wait a minute! Matt HATES cooked fruit with a passion!”. And you’d be correct. I couldn’t get him to eat the cooked fruit. He topped his with maple syrup. I did have a bite of his, and trust me when I say that the pears were much better. While we were eating, I tried to explain to Elin that just because Daddy has some irrational food aversions, doesn’t mean that she has to. Luckily we don’t have to worry about that yet, so I’m just going to enjoy the baby-cereal days while I can.

E-Mealz fo' Shizzle!
Recently my sister-in-law, Laura, told me about e-mealz. As a rule, I’m generally skeptical of anything that uses a “z” in leiu of an “s”, but I decided to give it a shot. I’ll try to sound as non-infomercially as I can, but here’s the scoop: you pay $5/month and this company plans out all of your dinners (5 nights per week). Not only do they plan them, but also they provide you with your grocery list all divided into grocery sections and everything. If any of you know how I roll, you know that I normally do this on Sundays. I try to at least. I sit on the couch with all of my healthy cookbooks around me and I plan out meals for the week. Once I have that worked out I make a grocery list, and then I re-write the grocery list according to category, like produce or dairy. And if any of you know how my dear husband rolls, you know that when I ask the inevitable “What do you want for supper this week?”, I always get the same, “Oh, I don’t care.” Thanks, honey. So when I found out that I could essentially pay someone $1.25 each week and save myself a Sunday afternoon I jumped on it. Now my Sundays will be free to go to more psychic fairs! Oh! And you can pick from all different types of menus, they have the normal menus (that look REALLY good) and then they have different ones like low-carb or weight watcher points. I went with the weight watcher option designed for two people, and it actually looks really, really good. Anyway, today was the first day in our new culinary adventure. I went to the store and followed my list, and came home and made the first of our five dinners this week – Onion Baked Pork Chops with Mashed Sweet Potatoes and grapes. It was actually really good. I’m impressed. And Matt’s impressed too. Luckily he likes eating healthy food with me, which is one of the perks that comes along with being married to him. I’ll keep you posted on the rest of the week.

Look into my crystal ball…
What do you do on a Sunday afternoon? Go to the park? Pop a Netflix movie into the dvd player? Not my sister and I, we take ourselves down to “Conference Room B” at the Sheraton for Tucson’s Psychic Fair! Fun stuff. We had a couple of readings done, one of which uncovered one of my past lives. Apparently, I used to be a wizard. And I wasn’t just your average run-of-the-mill medieval wizard either, but apparently I had a son, Merlin. Yep. In a past life I was the mother of Merlin the Wizard. So yeah. And my sister was a leper. Ha. Good times at the Sheraton.

Here goes nothin'!
I have a few of my favorite blogs like 'the little red house' and 'My Eggs and Ham' that I check every day, so I have to credit them for my inspiration to create my own blog. I can't promise anything riveting or ground breaking, especially because most days I feel really accomplished if I can squeeze in a shower, but I guess I'll give this a shot anyway. I'm really just looking for a creative outlet - I guess I'll sort of approach this as an online scrapbook. Yes. I like that. A scrapbooking hobby without spending a fortune at Michael's, and I won't be recieving a grade for it from my high school English teacher (hopefully). Hi, Mr. Daut. Sorry for Allison and I annoying the shit out of you.
